Assemblyman Bergen, a member of the New Jersey General Assembly, recently posted several critical comments on social media regarding his legislative colleagues and current political practices.
On November 30, 2025, Bergen questioned the priorities of elected officials in a post that read: “Is it just me, or did every politician’s Thanksgiving video look extra awkward this year? Maybe spend less time filming holiday clips and more time actually improving people’s lives.”
The following day, December 1, 2025, Bergen criticized Senator Polistina’s support for recent legislation affecting the State Comptroller’s office. He wrote: “I can’t believe that @SenPolistina just voted for the bill to gut the State Comptroller’s office and encourage corruption in our State. He is the worst Republican in the entire State Legislature, hands down.”
Later that same day, Bergen commented on Senator Jim Holzapfel’s vote on the same bill: “To be fair, I just found out Senator Jim Holzapfel voted yes too. Honestly, I didn’t even know he was a Republican senator until someone told me. Found out he didn’t even stay for the testimony and left a ‘yes’ vote on this train wreck. What a crazy day!!!”
Bergen has served as an assemblyman in New Jersey since 2022 and is known for his outspoken positions on issues concerning government accountability.
The role of the New Jersey State Comptroller involves overseeing government finances and ensuring transparency in state spending. Proposals to reduce its authority have previously drawn criticism from advocates who argue such changes could weaken oversight mechanisms designed to prevent misuse of public funds.
