Morris County held its 2025 reorganization meeting on January 3, where Tayfun Selen was sworn in as the director of the Board of County Commissioners. Alongside him, Deborah Smith, John Krickus, and Stephen H. Shaw took oaths for new three-year terms.

Selen expressed gratitude for his colleagues’ confidence, stating, “I appreciate my colleagues’ confidence in electing me as director again. In 2025, I’ll work even harder to keep Morris County the best-run county in America. With your support, we can make it happen.” Selen’s journey from immigrating to the United States from Turkey to becoming a commissioner highlights his personal story as described by State Sen. John Bramnick: “the American Dream.”

Stephen Shaw was reappointed as deputy director after being sworn in by State Sen. Anthony Bucco and Sheriff James M. Gannon. Shaw emphasized the importance of service: “It’s not about us individually — it’s about the people we serve.”

Commissioner Smith was sworn in by Hon. Joan Bedrin Murray and reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining services without raising taxes: “We upheld our commitment to holding the line on the county tax rate while maintaining the high-quality services that define Morris County.”

John Krickus focused on veteran services and fiscal discipline during his swearing-in ceremony conducted by Assemblyman Michael Inganamort.

Surrogate Darling reiterated her dedication to providing efficient probate services during her swearing-in by Hon. Stuart A. Minkowitz.

The event included a Presentation of Colors by the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and performances by Sgt. Eric Huffert and Louise Miniter from Morris County Vocational School District Academy for Performing Arts.

A moment of silence honored former President Jimmy Carter and victims of a recent terrorist attack in New Orleans.

The next Board of County Commissioners meeting is scheduled for January 8 at the Administration & Records Building.
