St. Joseph’s University Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center have both received “A” grades for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group for Fall 2025, according to an announcement from St. Joseph’s Health. This marks the third consecutive “A” grade for St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center and the second for St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit watchdog organization that evaluates hospitals across the United States on their efforts to protect patients from infections, injuries, and medical errors. The Hospital Safety Grade program uses an academic grading scale and focuses exclusively on preventable incidents that can harm patients.
“Our patients are at the heart of everything we do,” said Dustin M. Riccio, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph’s Health. “The scores reflect St. Joseph’s rigorous commitment to excellence from our entire team and the excellent care provided by our physicians, nurses and staff.”
Over recent years, St. Joseph’s Health has worked to improve safety measures throughout its system by involving all departments and employees in these efforts.
“Earning an ‘A’ Grade means that both St. Joseph’s University Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center made a true commitment to put patient safety first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is currently the only hospital rating system in the U.S. focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections, and injuries—issues responsible for more than 500 patient deaths each day nationwide. The ratings are peer-reviewed, transparent, free to access by the public, and updated twice yearly.
