THE PROJECT
The purpose of this project is to improve the overall pedestrian experience by improving connectivity between the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Promenade project, Spring Street, and the train station as well as the surrounding area. The project’s Design and Construction cost is funded by federal funds administered through NJDOT Local Aid Transportation Alternatives (TA) Program and Design Assistance. The project limits span along the entirety of Water Street, and portions of Spring Street and Martin Luther King Avenue. Proposed improvements include sidewalk, streetscape and landscaping improvements, new lighting, signage, and pavement markings, intersection and traffic signal improvements. It is anticipated that design will be completed in 2023, with construction to occur in 2024.
