Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Montville Police Chief Andrew Caggiano announce charges have been filed in connection with an alleged threat made Robert R. Lazar Middle School in Montville Township on March 24, 2023. The threat was made against the middle school over social media. Montville Police responded as a precaution, and students and staff were checked prior to entering the school.

Further investigation revealed the source of the threat to be a 15-year-old juvenile who does not attend the school. On March 31, charges of third degree terroristic threats and third degree false public alarm were formally filed against the juvenile defendant.

Since this matter involves a juvenile, no further information will be released. 

Morris County law enforcement takes threats of school violence seriously, and we thank the officers for their swift response and thorough investigation.
