Morris County is set to receive Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program funds from the Federal Highway Administration through the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) for safety upgrades at the Morris Street (CR 510) and Ridgedale Avenue intersection in Morristown.

"This project is essential to enhancing safety at a key intersection in Morristown. The funding enables critical upgrades that will protect both pedestrians and drivers while improving traffic flow and accessibility. These improvements will benefit residents by creating a safer, more efficient roadway for all," said Stephen H. Shaw, Deputy Director of the Morris County Board of County Commissioners and Secretary of the NJTPA Board.

Morris County received a $1,294,045 grant for this project through the NJTPA’s FY 2020 Local Safety Program (LSP). The intersection is near landmarks such as the Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morristown Library and Morristown Train Station and serves as a critical access point for local and commuter traffic. The improvements follow recommendations from a Road Safety Audit conducted in November 2019. The full RSA report is available at njtpa.org/rsa.

The LSP specializes in cost-effective solutions that can make an immediate impact on their target areas. It is federally funded utilizing Highway Safety Improvement Program funds established by the NJTPA with the Federal Highway Administration and New Jersey Department of Transportation to advance safety initiatives on county and local roads.
