Morris County is inviting residents to contribute to the creation of a Local Safety Action Plan (LSAP), aimed at improving safety on local roads. The initiative, supported by Avenues in Motion, focuses on reducing fatal and serious injury crashes across county and municipal roadways.
Avenues in Motion, a nonprofit organization assigned to several counties including Morris, Warren, and Sussex, has expressed its support for the LSAP. "More than 60 percent of all fatal and serious injury crashes in New Jersey happen on local roads," stated the organization. They emphasized their commitment to safe transportation and praised Morris County's efforts to launch the LSAP.
The Federal Highway Administration recognizes LSAPs as an effective method for reducing traffic accidents. The plan will also enable Morris County to access funding from initiatives like the $5 billion federal program Safe Streets and Roads for All, which supports projects enhancing roadway safety.
Residents are encouraged to engage with the LSAP by completing a survey and participating in a web mapping activity available on the project’s website. Community feedback is crucial for developing a plan that meets local needs. Avenues in Motion urges residents to share their experiences regarding street safety.
Stephen H. Shaw, Deputy Director of the Morris County Board of County Commissioners, highlighted the importance of public participation: "We encourage all residents to participate...Your input will help guide creating a safer, more efficient transportation network that prevents crashes and saves lives."
The North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority funds this initiative. Residents can visit Morris.SafetyPlansNJ.com for more information.
