“Sandra Sjursen
My experience with painting goes back 20+ years to my days as a student at Sarah Lawrence in the late 90s. After many years of thinking about picking back up a paintbrush, I finally had the time and patience to jump back in during the early days of the pandemic, and haven’t stopped since. All of the pent-up inspiration from years spent raising kids, working, and traveling has gradually made its way to the surface. On Exhibit

Whether I am painting a landscape, a still-life, or a piece of true abstraction, I try to create an echo or an impression of a place, a moment, or a feeling using paint. While most of my paintings may have a representative quality, I try to use off-beat composition, along with bold color, line, and texture to create something imaginative and ethereal, yet always evocative of something familiar. My process is intuitive and playful; while I am a meticulous planner in the other parts of my life, I find creating art is the place where I can be exploratory, whimsical, and daring .”
