Morris County law enforcement agencies are set to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 26, 2024. This event is part of a nationwide initiative coordinated by the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). It aims to encourage the public to dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications anonymously.

The collaboration involves several key figures from Morris County's law enforcement community. "Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, Sheriff James M. Gannon, Hanover Township Police Chief Michael Loock, Morris Plains Police Chief Mike Koroski, Morris Township Police Chief Robert Shearer, and Randolph Township Police Chief Will Harzula announced that their agencies will partner in this effort to reduce the abuse and misuse of pharmaceutical drugs."

At the end of the event, collected prescription drugs will be handled by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Sheriff’s Office for safe destruction in a non-hazardous manner.

Collection sites across Morris County will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., providing residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of their medications. For those unable to visit these locations on the day, permanent drop box locations can be found at dea.gov/takebackday.
