Morris County officials, including Commissioner Director Christine Myers, Deputy Director Stephen H. Shaw, and Sheriff James M. Gannon, participated in the first visit of the Picatinny Enhancement Coalition (PEC) to Washington D.C. The purpose of the visit was to emphasize the importance of Picatinny Arsenal in national defense and its economic impact on Morris County and New Jersey.

This inaugural event, referred to as the Picatinny "Charge," marks the beginning of regular visits to Washington D.C. to highlight Picatinny Arsenal's significance not only regionally but also nationally for defense purposes. Meetings were held with Department of Defense officials and members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Picatinny Arsenal is a crucial hub for armaments and munitions under the U.S. Army and ranks as Morris County's third-largest employer. It contributes approximately $367 million annually in workforce labor to New Jersey, with $163 million benefiting Morris County directly.

In recent years, Picatinny Arsenal has executed $122 million in contracts within New Jersey, awarding $47.5 million in Morris County alone—85 percent supporting small businesses according to Gregory Roehrich from the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center’s Enterprise and Systems Integration Center.

The Armament Graduate School at Picatinny Arsenal offers specialized education in engineering disciplines related to armaments development and supports one of the largest organizations at Picatinny: the Armaments Center.

"Picatinny Arsenal is a vital asset to our nation's military strength and a cornerstone of Morris County's economy," stated Commissioner Director Christine Myers during their Capitol visit aimed at reinforcing support for its mission.

The PEC delegation included local leaders such as State Senator Anthony Bucco, business representatives like WisEngineering's Cheryl Hall, community advocates including John Harmon from the African American Chamber of Commerce N.J., and several mayors from surrounding areas.

U.S. Representatives Mikie Sherrill and Tom Kean coordinated meetings that took place at key locations such as Capitol Hill discussions emphasizing Picatinny’s contributions both economically and defensively.

Commissioner Deputy Director Stephen Shaw highlighted that “Picatinny’s impact extends well beyond its gates,” noting its role in bolstering local economies through educational initiatives focused on STEM fields which help prepare future scientists and engineers.

Marty Kane, a retired member from Picatinny Arsenal emphasized this visit demonstrated strong community support for an essential asset contributing significantly both locally as well nationally towards defense efforts while ensuring continued advocacy remains active moving forward.
