Morris County Commissioner Director Tayfun Selen delivered a "State of the County" address at the Morris County Chamber of Commerce's 104th Annual Meeting, held at the Hanover Marriott Hotel in Whippany. The event attracted approximately 500 attendees.

During his speech, Director Selen highlighted key achievements from 2024, including maintaining a Triple-A bond rating for the 49th consecutive year and making strategic investments in workforce development, education, and public safety. He also emphasized the importance of preserving local history and parks.

"Another big reason for our success is our strong business community," said Director Selen. "Morris County is home to more than 23,000 businesses, and just last year, nearly 600 new businesses opened here."

Selen noted that these businesses contribute to job creation and tax revenue while helping maintain a stable county tax rate. He announced plans to expand educational facilities such as the County College of Morris (CCM) and Morris VoTech with a new Career Training Center focusing on AI, robotics, and supply chain management. Additionally, an 80,000 square-foot Center for Health Professions is being developed with Atlantic Health.

Meghan Hunscher, president and CEO of the Morris County Chamber of Commerce, gave a "State of the Chamber" address expressing gratitude towards sponsors and local leaders. She stated her commitment to innovation and fostering connections among members.

"I am proud of the community we have cultivated here at the Morris Chamber," said Hunscher. She also announced Dr. Anthony Iacono as the incoming chair of the chamber’s Board of Directors for 2025-2026.

The meeting featured keynote speaker Sudeep Kesh from S&P Global Ratings who discussed risk mitigation strategies in an interconnected economy. Christine Cox-West received an award for outstanding community leadership.

Director Selen concluded by emphasizing synergy within Morris County's success story: "It’s about businesses investing here and schools educating our students." Looking ahead to 2026 events like American Independence's anniversary and FIFA World Cup are expected to boost tourism.

“It’s our opportunity to showcase our county on the national stage,” he added.
