The Morris County Board of County Commissioners will hold its annual reorganization meeting on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 6 p.m. During the meeting, Commissioner Tayfun Selen is expected to take over as director from Christine Myers, while Commissioner Stephen Shaw will continue in his role as deputy director.

Commissioners Stephen H. Shaw, John Krickus, and Deborah Smith were re-elected in November for additional three-year terms and will be sworn into office. Morris County Surrogate Heather Darling, also re-elected in November, will begin her second five-year term.

The meeting is scheduled to take place on the fifth floor of the Administration and Records Building located at 10 Court St. in Morristown. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be available for viewing online via WebEx.

The Board of County Commissioners consists of seven members: Shaw, Krickus, Smith, Selen, Myers, Douglas R. Cabana, and Thomas J. Mastrangelo. They are elected at-large to serve staggered three-year terms and oversee policies for six county departments including Employee Resources and Public Works.

County Administrator Deena Leary manages day-to-day operations with each commissioner acting as a liaison to specific departments. The county government provides essential services that cannot be adequately managed by state or local governments alone.

These services include mandatory responsibilities as well as additional programs benefiting the entire county. By managing these services at the county level rather than duplicating efforts across municipalities, taxpayer dollars are saved while improving residents' quality of life.
