The Morris County Board of County Commissioners has recognized G. David "Dave" Scott for his 35 years of service as CEO and executive director of the Market Street Mission. Scott retired on December 31, 2024, after a career dedicated to aiding those in need.

Commissioner Director Tayfun Selen presented Scott with a framed resolution of honor, acknowledging his leadership at the Mission, which has been providing assistance to the homeless, hungry, and individuals struggling with addiction since 1889.

"David has dedicated his life to helping others find hope and recovery. His leadership and service have had a profound impact on Morris County," said Director Selen. "Under his guidance, the Market Street Mission expanded its reach and transformed countless lives, providing hope, support and a path forward for those who needed it most."

Selen also expressed gratitude for Scott's collaboration with the county's Human Services Department during challenging times such as the pandemic.

During his tenure as CEO, Scott led significant growth in the Mission’s Emergency Assistance and Life Change Recovery Program. He doubled the size of the Morristown facility and extended services to areas like Jersey Shore and Sussex County. The Mission now provides over 140,000 meals and 44,000 nights of shelter annually. Newsweek recognized it as one of America’s Best Addiction Treatment Centers for two consecutive years.

Scott began his career in service as a chaplain’s assistant in the U.S. Army before moving on to roles such as superintendent at Goodwill Home and Rescue Mission in Newark, N.J., and directing a residential treatment program at Yonkers Gospel Mission.

He holds degrees from California State University in behavioral science and counseling. His professional credentials include certified clinical supervisor, licensed certified alcohol and drug counselor, and licensed professional counselor.

His work has received national recognition; notably, an Asbury Park building was dedicated in his honor and December 5 was declared "David Scott Day" in Morristown.
